For over 85 years, Roycemore
School in Evanston has nurtured generations of students
in an attentive, stimulating environment. A college-preparatory,
independent, co-educational day school, Roycemore celebrates its
blend of backgrounds, cultures, and interests with students from
Chicago, Evanston, and surrounding suburbs. From Junior Kindergarten
(ages 3 and 4) through 12th grade, students enjoy small classes
that permit teachers to challenge them and to help those who might
find material difficult. Roycemores personal attention inspires
individual excellence. Graduating classes consistently include several
National Merit award winners and Advanced Placement scholars. Roycemore
is adjacent to Northwestern University and qualified Upper School
students may take for-credit courses there at no additional charge.
Roycemores Lower School features a challenging, diversified
curriculum enriched by numerous activities, field trips, with specialists
in art, music, physical education, and more. In small classes with
caring, committed teachers, children are immersed in the pleasure
of discovery. Computers are in each classroom and their use is integrated
into the daily program. French is introduced in kindergarten through
oral/aural exposure. Close communication with parents is maintained
all year. A strong character education is emphasized.
Middle School is a transition to a more departmentalized academic schedule. Fifth-grade students have one main teacher for most subjects and another for social studies, along with specialists in art, music, speech/drama, French, library, computers, and physical education. Sixth- through eighth-graders have different teachers in each subject area. Extracurricular activities provide opportunities for all students to participate in athletic events, performances, and clubs.
The Upper School focuses on preparing students for college. Roycemore offers a full range of courses, from studio art to physics, including advanced-placement classes in all disciplines. Numerous dramatic, dance, club, publications, and athletic activities, as well as a strong faculty-advisory program, round out a students Upper School experience. A three-week January Short Term provides students a rare opportunity to plan and carry out independent projectsat school, in the Chicago/Evanston area, and throughout the world.
