Lake Forest Academy

Founded in 1857, Lake Forest Academy provides an intimate and rigorous educational environment through small class sizes (12-student average) and close contact between residential faculty and students. The LFA student body is one of the most diverse in the country, representing 20 states and 21 countries; the international population is substantial.

Distinguished by its multicultural student body, LFA prepares citizens with the intellectual, cultural, and interpersonal skills necessary to succeed in the global community. Weekends include trips of cultural merit and entertainment value to Chicago and surrounding towns.

There are four residence halls on campus––two girls’ dorms and two boys’ dorms. Ninety percent of the faculty live on campus in apartments and free-standing houses.

Lake Forest Academy occupies a beautiful, 150-acre campus on the former estate of J. Ogden Armour, son of the meat-packing magnate Philip Danforth Armour. LFA’s acres of playing fields, indoor ice arena, tennis courts, and all-weather track form part of the Academy’s extensive athletic facilities. The Memorial Gymnasium features basketball courts, an indoor pool, a wrestling room, and a weight room.
