La
Lumiere School was founded by a group
of Chicago and Indiana businessmen in 1963, as an independent Catholic
Day and Boarding school with grades 9-12 and a post-graduate year.
La Lumiere aims to provide quality college preparatory education
for each student in the tradition of the finest independent secondary
schools.
The founders believed that education and faith should
walk hand in hand to engender character and strong academic performance.
La Lumiere believes that what distinguishes one person from another
is strength of character, inquisitive nature, tolerance, sympathy
and leadership qualities.
La Lumiere is a school where the fundamental principals
of character, scholarship and faith are essential in the preparation
of young men and women for the responsibilities and opportunities
of adulthood. La Lumiere challenges each student to succeed scholastically,
to develop friendships that last a lifetime, and to participate
in all aspects of school life. A La Lumiere education allows students
to grow into well rounded, confident, and capable adults.
Our faculty is comprised of dedicated, caring individuals
to whom teaching is not just a job, but also a way of life. With
a student to teacher ratio of 6:1 and average class size of 12 students,
La Lumiere's unique advantage is the personal attention that brings
out the very best in each student. La Lumiere's college preparatory
program places special emphasis on critical thinking along with
the mastery of oral and written communications. An innovative cross-curricular
writing program, competitive science and math departments, and an
award winning art department combine to help La Lumiere provide
an academic environment with emphasis on the individual learner,
shaping the complete student in character, scholarship and faith.
Personal attention, extra help and hard work are the hallmarks of
success at La Lumiere.
La Lumiere graduates have a distinct advantage over
other high school graduates: they are trained to think critically,
articulate clearly, and take action confidently. La Lumiere's commitment
to preparing students for college has resulted in a 100% college
placement record. Each student has the one-on-one assistance of
a college counselor.
La Lumiere begins as a school and ends as a lifetime
experience that students truly value and carry with them for the
rest of their lives.
