Founded in 1884, Howe Military School is a co-ed, college-preparatory, boarding school in Indiana’s rural northeastern lake country for grades 5 through 12. The school seeks to provide a balanced education through academics, physical development, leadership training, and opportunities for spiritual growth. Howe’s military format provides students with a structured environment that enables them to focus on their coursework. The academic program is divided into two semesters. The maximum number of students in a class is 16 with the average class size being 8 to 10 cadets. Academic success for each student is encouraged through individual GPA goals, computer integration into all classes, and daily extra help sessions. Annually, nearly 100 percent of Howe graduates go on to higher education. The military program is a registered U.S. Army JROTC unit and has been designated an Honor Unit with Distinction by the Department of Defense. Howe Military School maintains a historical affiliation with the Episcopal Church but admits students of all faiths. Howe offers a full competitive and intramural athletic program and is a member of the Indiana High School Athletic Association. Other extracurricular activities are available, including yearbook, radio club, speech, and debate. Howe Military School is a nonprofit institution and is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Howe is also a member of the Independent Schools Association of the Central States, the Association of Boarding Schools, the Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the United States, the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, and the National Association of Independent Schools.
