North Park Elementary School

North Park Elementary School, founded in 1980 by a group of parents, teachers, and residents, is an affordable, nonsectarian school that encourages parents to participate fully in the education of their children. Throughout its history, NPES has prided itself on providing high-quality elementary education. Teachers, staff, and parents actively participate in the school and help create a nurturing and stimulating environment. This involvement is a strong factor in the academic and personal growth achieved by students.

In order to make full use of the abundant resources available in Chicago, NPES works with a variety of educational and cultural institutions, including Northeastern Illinois University, North Park University, the Field Museum, and the Sulzer Regional Library. These partnerships continue to enrich our academic programs.

NPES combines the best elements of traditional instruction with a “whole child” approach to ensure student development and learning. Children often work in small groups. Departmentalization in the middle school (6 - 8) permits teachers to specialize by subject matter. In addition to core subjects, art, music, drama, Spanish, computers, and gym are taught. Field trips and cultural activities supplement classroom education. Parents also serve as resources, providing their skills and expertise in the classrooms and in after-school programs.

Students consistently perform above national norms and demonstrate excellent academic growth. NPES scores in the 95th percentile nationally on the Iowa Tests.
