The Chicago Academy for the Arts

Since 1981,The Chicago Academy for the Arts has served as one of five private, independent, college-preparatory arts high schools in the United States. In addition to a traditional high school curriculum, students are given intensive training in one of these six arts fields: Music, Visual Art, Dance, Theater, Musical Theater, and Media Arts. Each day, students spend five hours in academics and three hours in their chosen art major, all of which include classes in theory, history, and technique.

The Chicago Academy for the Arts is designed to maximize each student’s potential to communicate through the arts. The Arts Academy strives to prepare students to think critically, to be capable of independent thought, and to acquire the skills both of analysis and synthesis. The training of the mind to connect separate elements and to establish relationships between them is fundamental to an artist’s development.

The Arts Academy is located one mile west of the Water Tower in downtown Chicago. In addition to traditional academic classrooms and labs, the Arts Academy building contains a variety of performance and arts training studios, including a music recording studio, film/video studio with editing system, piano labs and practice rooms, four theater studios, a 60-seat proscenium black box theater, theater shop and costume stock, three dance studios, four visual-arts studios, a fully equipped sculpture facility, and a visual-arts gallery.

Each department maintains a regular schedule of public exhibitions, publications, recitals, or performances.
